More adventuring.
Less classroom.
Ten days in wild
Tasmania.
A small-group photographic adventure through one of the world’s great wildlife destinations. Birds, devils, raptors, penguins, wild coastlines — and two guides who love every minute of it.
This is the very first time we’ve taken 2Mad Photographers to Tasmania — and we can’t wait. Pilot tour pricing is locked until 31 December 2026. If you’ve been thinking about joining us somewhere extraordinary, this is the one to do first.

“Ákos’ passion and knowledge of the birds in the field was not intimidating but inclusive and passion for each and every bird totally infectious. Netra quietly walking amongst us helping with camera settings. So you got so much more out of the in-field photography.”

Your adventure,
ten days unfolding
Bonorong
Meet the group in Hobart and settle into the Old Woolstore Hotel, our home for the first three nights. Then straight out for our first wildlife encounter — a private experience at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas, kangaroos, quolls and possums — up close, in the light.
Adventure underway.
Refuge
Two exclusive sessions at the Raptor Refuge — behind the scenes on raptor ecology, conservation and rehabilitation, then cameras out for guided, up-close photography with rehabilitated refuge birds. Different species rotated across both sessions where possible.
Each day also includes a focused photography tips session with Netra and Ákos, plus lunch. Afternoon activities to be confirmed.
Island
We leave Hobart and make our way to Bruny Island, settling into Hotel Bruny in Alonnah for the next three nights. After checking in, we head to The Neck — one of Australia’s great wildlife spectacles — in search of shearwaters and little penguins as daylight fades.
Reserve
Two full days to immerse ourselves in the extraordinary Inala Nature Reserve. Purpose-built raptor photography hide. The elevated Forty-spotted Pardalote viewing platform. Endemic birds including Green Rosellas, Yellow Wattlebirds, Scrubtits and Tasmanian Native Hens. The otherworldly Jurassic Garden.
These are days for patience, cameras and whatever the forest decides to show us.
Tasman Peninsula
One last morning of hide sessions at Inala before we say goodbye to Bruny and make our way to the Tasman Peninsula. Lufra Beachside Hotel is our base for the final three nights — dramatic coastal scenery, new wildlife, new light.
& Ocean
An early start at the extraordinary Tessellated Pavement — a rare geological formation that gives us a landscape photography opportunity in first light like nowhere else in Australia.
Then out onto the water. We’re finalising either a pelagic bird photography experience or a wildlife cruise — either way, expect cameras, sea legs and something spectacular.
& the Unzoo
Early risers can return to Tessellated Pavement for another crack at sunrise. Then a morning exploring Port Arthur, before an afternoon at the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo — almost 100 bird species recorded on the property, plus devils, pademelons, bandicoots and whatever else decides to appear.
Bound
One last breakfast together. Memory cards full. Batteries flat. And hopefully already talking about where 2Mad Photographers should take you next.
Return transfer to Hobart Airport.
The things that make
this trip extraordinary
Two exclusive half-day experiences behind the scenes at Tasmania’s Raptor Refuge. Learn about raptor ecology and conservation, then photograph rehabilitated birds of prey at close range. Different birds rotated across sessions where possible.
A privately owned conservation reserve on South Bruny Island recording around 95 bird species — including all 12 Tasmanian endemics. Purpose-built raptor photography hides, the Forty-spotted Pardalote canopy platform, and the Jurassic Garden.
A private wildlife experience to kick off the adventure. Close-range encounters with Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas, kangaroos, quolls and more — all within an experience centred on animal welfare and conservation.
Natural bushland habitats, wild animals moving freely through the property. Nearly 100 bird species recorded. Tasmanian devils up close, plus pademelons, bandicoots, possums and whatever the bush decides to send our way.
One of Australia’s most magical wildlife spectacles. As daylight fades over Bruny Island, shearwaters wheel overhead and little penguins make their way ashore. Cameras low, patience high.
Either a pelagic bird photography trip or a wildlife cruise — we’re choosing the strongest option available. Sea birds, marine wildlife, towering sea cliffs and the Southern Ocean. The cameras are definitely coming.

2027 TAS Workshop
Things people
often want to know
What level of photographer do I need to be?
This isn’t a classroom-heavy workshop, it’s an adventure with photography at the centre of it. You should be comfortable with your camera, but there’s no minimum standard. Netra and Ákos share what they know, help when you ask, and get out of your way when you’re onto something good.
What camera system should I bring?
Whatever you shoot with. Netra and Ákos both switched from Canon professional gear to OM System six years ago, so OM System shooters are very well looked after, but the teaching translates across every brand. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, all welcome.
Why is some of the itinerary marked TBC?
This is a draft itinerary for a brand-new tour. A small number of activities, primarily the Day 8 water experience, are being confirmed to ensure we book the very best option available. Pricing is locked regardless, and we’ll keep everyone updated as details are finalised.
Is it okay to travel to Tasmania on my own?
Absolutely. The small group means everyone gets to know each other quickly, and past guests have felt like old friends by day two. You won’t feel like the odd one out. Many people choose to travel solo and find it one of the best parts of the experience.
Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?
Never — and that’s part of what makes it real. We’re going to places with extraordinary records and access. Wild animals make their own decisions. The Raptor Refuge and Bonorong sessions give us reliable, close-range access to remarkable subjects. Everything else, we show up, we wait, and Tasmania does the rest.
How do I secure a spot?
Register your interest below and we’ll be in touch personally. Once you’re ready to commit, Trudy at Time Flies Travel handles all bookings. A $500 deposit secures your place, with the balance due closer to departure.
